Pascagoula is 1-6 against George County since March of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Panthers will host the Rebels at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Pascagoula took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Moss Point a 10-0 shutout. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Massyah Thomas made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Pascagoula let Ty'Mia Bell and Asante Dawson run wild. Bell scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Dawson went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most hits Dawson has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Yasmine Black, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Pascagoula hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, George County was able to grind out a solid win over Picayune on Friday, taking the game 4-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rebels.
Not much got past Peyton Collins, who gave up just a hit and racked up 12 Ks to keep Picayune off the board.
On the hitting side, Addison Davis was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Blakey Slay was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
George County pushed their record up to 22-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Pascagoula, their victory bumped their record up to 6-13.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pascagoula has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like George County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Pascagoula might still be hurting after the 13-0 loss they got from George County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
