Baseball Game Preview: DeRidder Dragons vs. Leesville Wampus Cats

For the first time this season, DeRidder will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Tuesday. They are taking a road trip to take on the Leesville Wampus Cats at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

DeRidder not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since February 25th. They were the clear victor by a 15-7 margin over Lake Charles College Prep. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Dragons.

Meanwhile, Leesville had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against Simpson on Friday as Leesville made off with a 12-1 victory.

Logan Seavey was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit over six innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Leesville's success: when he allows at most three hits the team is 2-1 (and 4-6-1 when he doesn't). Seavey was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that he hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Creek Smith, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits. Daren Brown was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

DeRidder pushed their record up to 7-11 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Leesville, their record is now 6-7-1.

DeRidder took their victory against Leesville when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 11-2. Will DeRidder repeat their success, or does Leesville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
