Softball Game Preview: Evansville Reitz Panthers vs. Terre Haute South Vigo Braves

The Evansville Reitz Panthers will take on the Terre Haute South Vigo Braves at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Evansville Reitz fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Jasper on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 5-4.

Ella Ellerbrook spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on nine hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Evansville Reitz saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kinley Miller, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base and one RBI. Alivia Westerfield also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Meanwhile, Terre Haute South Vigo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of Sullivan.

Marcia Parker made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Lakyn Hadley, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Evansville Reitz's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Terre Haute South Vigo, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

Terre Haute South Vigo's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Evansville Reitz has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Terre Haute South Vigo, though, as they've been averaging 9.6 hits.
