Basketball Recap: Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals vs. Wood River Eagles

The Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.6 points), and they went ahead and made it 12 on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Wood River 56-53. Given Doniphan-Trumbull's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 13th, while the Eagles are ranked 73rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Doniphan-Trumbull found their leader in underclassman Parker Volk, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kaedan Detamore, who scored 13 points along with five assists and two steals.

Doniphan-Trumbull's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points per game. As for Wood River, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-7.

Doniphan-Trumbull will take on the Dusters at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Holdrege is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. As for Wood River, they will head out on the road to take on the Whippets at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday.
