Basketball Recap: Dirigo Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dirigo). They pulled ahead with a 48-47 photo finish over the North Yarmouth Academy Panthers on Saturday. The win was familiar territory for the Cougars who have now won five games in a row.

Sophia Nino was a one-woman wrecking crew for Dirigo as she went 5 of 7 en route to 12 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Aleiah Ward, who went 6 of 14 en route to 16 points and eight rebounds.

Dirigo's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-3. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.7 points per game. As for North Yarmouth Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dirigo will head out to face off against St. Dominic at 7:00 p.m. on January 4, 2025. As for North Yarmouth Academy, they will face off against Poland at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Poland knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully North Yarmouth Academy likes a good challenge.
