Baseball Recap: Plainwell Comes Up Short

Plainwell was the 8-5 winner over Hastings when they last played one another back in March of 2025, but their luck changed this time around. The Trojans fell just short of the Saxons by a score of 5-4 on Thursday.

Andrew Hampton made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and two runs. Plainwell is 2-1 when Hampton posts two or more runs, but 4-5-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Luke Filkins, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Plainwell has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-6-1 record this season. As for Hastings, they pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Plainwell will take on Catholic Central at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Hastings, they will challenge Western at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
