League recap: Greenville-Weston climbs in state rankings with win

Greenville-Weston moved up to 178 from 204 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 6A Region 2. The Hornets climbed the ranks as a result of a 41-27 win over the Hornets.

Murrah extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Greenville-Weston, 41-27. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.

Madison Central's dynamic duo of Jake Schwartz and Kelvin Williams proved tough for Clinton to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Schwartz threw for 232 yards and Williams had 66 yards receiving. Keith Williams helped Madison Central's passing attack out by catching six balls for 62 yards.

Aaron Stamps was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 23 carries, he ran for 139 yards as Warren Central topped the Arrows. Teammate Carlisle Koestler added to the ground attack by rushing for 17 yards.

Madison Central's Schwartz and Williams have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 6A Region 2 in both passing and receiving yards. Schwartz has thrown for 990 yards this season, while Williams, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 27 catches for 577 yards. Stamps from the Vikings leads the league in rushing with 412 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Bobby Hall's team takes on Murrah. As it stands, the Jaguars are in fourth, while Zachary Grady's team is in first.

There should be lots of points scored when Madison Central and the Mustangs face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Jaguars comes in having scored 136 this season, while Murrah has scored 137. Madison Central scored 35 points last week as it bested Clinton.

Vicksburg was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in the league. The Gators vanquished the Gators 42-28 earlier in the week.
