Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of De'janae Gibson and Sierra Henry Lead Polytech to Victory

Polytech hadn't done well against Cape Henlopen recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Polytech Panthers managed a 42-38 victory over the Cape Henlopen Vikings. While the Panthers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Polytech was led to victory by Sierra Henry and De'Janae Gibson. Henry posted 17 points along with five assists and five rebounds, while Gibson went 6 of 10 en route to 13 points and three steals. Henry is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Makyiah Patterson was another key player, putting up six points.

Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hayden Hudson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 boards. Another player making a difference was Amalia Fruchtman, who earned ten points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists.

Polytech's win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 6-1. As for Cape Henlopen, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 6-4.

Polytech won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Salisbury at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cape Henlopen, they will square off against Caesar Rodney at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
