Basketball Recap: East Lake Snaps 20-Game Streak of Wins at Home

East Lake entered their match against Boca Ciega on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The East Lake Eagles took a 59-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Boca Ciega Pirates. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2023.

East Lake's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Bryant, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. Bryant is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted four or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Andre Willis, who posted 14 points.

Boca Ciega's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Atron Eubanks led the charge by putting up 17 points. Those 17 points gave Eubanks a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Keena Taylor, who earned 12 points.

East Lake's loss ended a 20-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 17-6. As for Boca Ciega, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-9.

East Lake wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 80-43 victory against Palm Harbor University on the 28th. Boca Ciega has also already played their next game, a 72-66 win against Dunedin on the 27th.
