Volleyball Recap: Morro Bay Takes Down Highland in a Playoff Battle + How To Watch

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Morro Bay had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Highland Scots, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since September 27th.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Morro Bay got the one that really mattered. The final score came out to 25-14, 19-25, 25-20, 19-25, 16-14.

Despite the loss, Highland saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Mia Phelps had 14 digs and nine aces. Those nine aces set a new season-high mark for Phelps. The team also got some help courtesy of Madalyn Gonzalez, who had 14 digs and two assists.

The win made it two in a row for Morro Bay and bumps their season record up to 20-24. As for Highland, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-18-3 record this season.

Morro Bay will take on Coalinga at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Highland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
