Basketball Recap: Hampton Comes Up Short

Hampton extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 10-17. They were dealt a 64-28 defeat at the hands of the Unaka Rangers. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while the Rangers are ranked 95th).

As for Unaka, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 20-4. They have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Michelle Shields was her usual excellent self, going 9-for-14 en route to 28 points. Her big performance that evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna Sutherland, who shot 71% from the field to rack up 14 points and six boards.

Looking ahead, Hampton will take on Cosby at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Unaka, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 56-51 win against North Greene on the 23rd.
