The Lapeer Lightning were not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by Powers Catholic 85-52. While losing is never fun, Lapeer can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 453rd, while Powers Catholic is ranked 61st).
It was another big night for Javontae Ross, who scored 22 points along with five assists and three steals for Powers Catholic. Ross is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jesse Cull, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds.
Lapeer's defeat dropped their record down to 4-18. As for Powers Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 17-5.
Lapeer's road trip will continue as they head out to face Holly at 7:00 p.m. on February 26th. Lapeer is facing Holly at the right time seeing as Holly is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Powers Catholic, they will face off against Tournament Team at TBD on Monday.
