Basketball Game Preview: Lakewood Spartans vs. Wildwood Wildcats

The Lakewood Spartans will head out to take on the Wildwood Wildcats at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Lakewood is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Boca Ciega: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Lakewood blew Boca Ciega out of the water with an 83-13 final score. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while the Pirates are ranked 325th), the result on Wednesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lakewood's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sumayah McIntosh led the charge by going 8 of 14 on her way to 16 points and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikayla Paschal, who posted 18 points and four steals.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wildwood). They blew past The Villages Charter, posting a 73-44 victory. The win was just business as usual for the Wildcats, who after six games remain undefeated this season.

Lakewood has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.8 points per game. As for Wildwood, they pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.
