Softball Recap: Alamo Heights Mules vs. Boerne-Champion Chargers
Alamo Heights fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Boerne-Champion on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Boerne-Champion Chargers by a score of 5-4. The Mules have struggled against the Chargers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Brooke Butler was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
Butler wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Elle Leavitt, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Megan Hawkins also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Alamo Heights' loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Boerne-Champion, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Coming up, Alamo Heights will face off against Johnson at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Johnson will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Alamo Heights surely won't give up without a fight. As for Boerne-Champion, they will head out to face off against Boerne at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Boerne has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed eight runs per game on average), something Boerne-Champion will no doubt try to take advantage of.
