Basketball Game Preview: Katella Knights vs. El Modena Vanguards

The Katella Knights and the El Modena Vanguards will compete for holiday cheer at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Katella is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.9 points per game this season.

Last Tuesday, Katella came up short against Tustin and fell 57-49. The defeat continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Tillers: they've now lost four in a row.

Katella's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Zadot Reyes, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc on his way to 20 points and five rebounds, and Joseph Damian, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 20 points. That's the most points Damian has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Montejo, who posted two points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, El Modena didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Orange on Friday, but they still walked away with a 41-37 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vanguards.

El Modena has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 5-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Katella, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

Katella was able to grind out a solid win over El Modena in their previous meeting back in December of 2016, winning 61-53. Does Katella have another victory up their sleeve, or will El Modena turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
