Basketball Recap: Shelby Comes Up Short

Shelby was the 86-77 winner over River Valley when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. The Shelby Whippets were beaten by the River Valley Vikings 94-64 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Whippets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 247th, while the Vikings are ranked 35th).

River Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Eli Snyder, who went 10 of 14 en route to 23 points and eight rebounds. Those eight rebounds gave Snyder a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Ebert, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 assists.

Shelby moved to 3-2 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for River Valley, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.

Shelby didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 45-35 victory against Norwalk on the 23rd. As for River Valley, they will look to defend their home court on December 27th against Highland at 7:15 p.m. River Valley has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
