Maryville Christian won the last time they faced Granite City, and Titus Verning did his part to make sure it happened again. The Lions had just enough and edged out the Warriors 2-1 on Thursday for which the team can thank Verning, who had 39 assists and seven digs. He is on a roll when it comes to assists, as he's now posted 15 or more in each of the last four games he's played.

The match was exciting from start to finish, as two sets needed extra rallies to gain a two-point lead. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 26-24, 26-24.

Maryville Christian now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Granite City, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Maryville Christian beat the Warriors by a score of 2-1 on Friday.
