Recap: Phillips Wildcats vs. Kenwood Broncos
The Phillips Wildcats and the Kenwood Broncos squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but sadly the Phillips Wildcats had to settle for second. Phillips' rough 31-6 defeat to Kenwood might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Phillips can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 202nd, while Kenwood is ranked 76th).
Mako Grant had a dynamite game for Kenwood, rushing for 233 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. Grant really tore up the turf during one magnificent 82-yard run. Demaje Williams made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Phillips' loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Kenwood, they pushed their record up to 7-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Phillips does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Kenwood will square off against Whitney Young at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
