Softball Recap: Coventry Wins High-Profile Game Against Moses Brown

Coventry faced Moses Brown in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Oakers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Quakers a 7-0 shutout. The Oakers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Not much got past Sage SoareS, who gave up just four hits and racked up 14 Ks to keep Moses Brown off the board. SoareS has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Coventry let Emily Spadoni and Leah Lapham run wild. Spadoni got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Lapham got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Spadoni a new career-high. Another player making a difference was LiLyana BeLL, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Coventry has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Moses Brown, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.

As of now, neither Coventry nor the Quakers have any future games scheduled.
