Basketball Game Preview: Foothill Falcons vs. Basic Wolves

The Foothill Falcons will head out on the road to face off against the Basic Wolves at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Foothill is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Silverado: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Falcons blew the Skyhawks out of the water with a 73-18 final score. The victory was nothing new for the Falcons as they're now sitting on five straight.

Foothill found their leader in sophomore Stephanie Eguzha, who shot 83% from the field en route to 11 points in addition to seven rebounds and seven steals. With that strong performance, Eguzha is now averaging an impressive 3 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Kayla Griffith, who went 5-for-10 to rack up 12 points and four steals.

Foothill was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Basic, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They blew past Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon 47-10 on Wednesday. The Wolves pushed the score to 30-6 by the end of the third, a deficit the Pirate had little chance of recovering from.

Basic's win bumped their record up to 11-9. As for Foothill, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 11-9.

Foothill skirted past Basic 46-44 in their previous matchup back in January of 2025. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Wolves' Mia Frias, who posted 30 points and five steals. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Falcons still be able to contain Frias? There's only one way to find out.
