Softball Recap: Ponder Gets the Win

Ponder took a 12-run defeat the last time they faced off against Whitesboro, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Lions skirted past the Bearcats 7-6. This was a revenge game for the Lions: when they faced off against the Bearcats back in March, they had to take a 12-0 loss.

Vada Cochrum spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Brooke Matamoros was incredible, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Tessa Taft was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Ponder has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. As for Whitesboro, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-8.

Coincidentally, Ponder and Whitesboro will both be playing Pilot Point the next time they take the field. The Lions will head out to face the Bearcats at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Bearcats will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on the 17th.
