Basketball Recap: North Edgecombe Takes a Loss

North Edgecombe was the 76-71 winner over Wilson Prep when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The North Edgecombe Warriors had to suffer through an 83-56 loss at the hands of the Wilson Prep Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 332nd, while the Tigers are ranked 148th).

When it comes to explaining why North Edgecombe lost on Wednesday, don't look at Jahmir Parker. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 24 points and ten rebounds. Parker has become a key player for North Edgecombe: the team is 6-3 when he posts at least eight boards, but 3-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Nyzir Mills, who posted 12 points along with eight assists and six rebounds.

Keontae Barron continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Wilson Prep, putting up 13 points in addition to seven steals and six boards. Barron is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Newsome, who went 5 of 10 en route to 17 points.

This is the second loss in a row for North Edgecombe and nudges their season record down to 9-9. As for Wilson Prep, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-4.

North Edgecombe has already played their next game, a 53-47 defeat against Northwest Halifax on the 7th. As for Wilson Prep, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 87-43 victory against Weldon on the 7th.
