Softball Recap: St. Paul Extends Road Winning Streak to Three

St. Paul had won three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they bumped their record up to 4-3 to make it four. They never let the Doherty Memorial Highlanders get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory. This was a revenge game for the Knights: when they faced off against the Highlanders two weeks ago, they had to take a 2-1 loss.

As for Doherty Memorial, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. The match marked the first time this season in which they were not able to get on the board.

For Doherty Memorial's part, Riley Cormier spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. Cormier has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Doherty Memorial saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isabella LLanos, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.

Looking ahead, St. Paul will take on Notre Dame Academy at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rebels have averaged an impressive 11.2 runs per game this season. As for Doherty Memorial, they will square off against North at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
