Football Recap: Golden Valley Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Golden Valley extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 4-9. They took a blow against the El Capitan Gauchos, falling 41-7. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 46-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

As for El Capitan, they pushed their record up to 13-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Considering they have won eight matchups by more than 24 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

El Capitan's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aaliyah Simonian led the charge by throwing for 286 yards and four touchdowns, while also rushing for 59 yards and one score. That's the most passing touchdowns Simonian has posted over her last three contests. El Capitan's leading receiver Avnoor Bains was Simonian's top target yet again, picking up 122 receiving yards and three TDs.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Golden Valley will venture away from home to square off against Merced at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bears will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last. As for El Capitan, they will head out to take on Atwater at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Gauchos 5.3, the Falcons 9.1) so any points scored will be well earned.
