Softball Game Preview: Mattoon Greenwave vs. Centralia Orphans

The Mattoon Greenwave will head out on the road to challenge the Centralia Orphans at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Mattoon came up short against Salem on Wednesday, falling 9-2. The Greenwave have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mattoon saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isabel Phillips, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Meanwhile, Centralia hadn't done well against Marion recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Orphans skirted past the Wildcats 3-2.

Centralia's victory was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Mattoon, their loss dropped their record down to 12-16.
