Baseball Game Preview: Ridgecroft Rams vs. Cape Fear Christian Academy Eagles

The Ridgecroft Rams will face off against the Cape Fear Christian Academy Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Cape Fear Christian Academy took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Ridgecroft, who comes in off a win.

Ridgecroft will bounce into Monday's contest after beating Pungo Christian Academy, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Ridgecroft walked away with a 6-3 win over Pungo Christian Academy on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rams.

Dawson Collins made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Ridgecroft's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't).

Collins wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Landon Woodard, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Trace Farmer also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last three matchups, Cape Fear Christian Academy finally came back down to earth on Thursday. They lost 12-2 to Kerr-Vance Academy. The Eagles' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Ridgecroft pushed their record up to 6-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cape Fear Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
