Softball Recap: Gibsonburg Wins Going Away Against St. Joseph Central Catholic

Gibsonburg lost to St. Joseph Central Catholic back in May of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Golden Bears were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Crimson Streaks. With that win, the Golden Bears brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Ava Amor made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Emily Henderson was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Leah Hall was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

The victory made it two in a row for Gibsonburg and bumps their season record up to 4-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for St. Joseph Central Catholic, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-3.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Gibsonburg is set to face off against their familiar foe St. Mary Central Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, St. Joseph Central Catholic will take on rival Hopewell-Loudon at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
