Volleyball Recap: Claymont Comes Up Short

Claymont was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Garaway Pirates. The Mustangs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Pirates earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

Claymont started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 22-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-16, 15-6.

Lilly Riker paced Claymont's offense, picking up 20 kills. Riker got some help from Elah Davis and her 17 assists. Davis also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Brinly McMorrow, each putting up four.

Garaway found their leader in sophomore Kenya Njoroge, who had 20 digs and two aces. Those 20 digs set a new season-high mark for Njoroge.

Claymont's defeat dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Garaway, their victory ended a three-match drought on the road and puts them at 10-7.

Claymont wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 loss against Indian Valley on the 27th. As for Garaway, they will head out to face off against Central Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
