Softball Recap: Ennis Has No Trouble Against Kerens

It was a proper cat-fight when Ennis faced off against Kerens on Tuesday. The Ennis Lions were the clear victor by a 16-1 margin over the Kerens Bobcats. Considering the Lions have won three matches by more than ten runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Breona Benavidez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Ennis got a massive performance out of Aley Nichols, who scored a run while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Nichols a new career-high in hits (three). Kaycee Slovak was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Ennis was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kerens only posted a batting average of .111.

Ennis has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. This is the second loss in a row for Kerens and nudges their season record down to 4-2-1.

Coming up, Ennis will challenge Palmer at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Kerens, they will square off against Jacksonville at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Kerens is facing Jacksonville at the right time seeing as Jacksonville is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
