Basketball Recap: Nucla Piles Up the Points Against Caprock Academy

While Nucla didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past the Caprock Academy Eagles 59-17 on Friday. With that win, the Mustangs brought their scoring average up to 50.3 points per game.

Nucla's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kendra McCluer, who went 9 for 18 on her way to 19 points and seven steals. Those 19 points gave McCluer a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Darcy Bray, who posted eight points in addition to eight rebounds and eight steals.

Nucla smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 21 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Nucla's record now sits at 5-1. As for Caprock Academy, they now have a losing record at 2-3.

Nucla wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 59-15 victory against Soroco on the 14th. As for Caprock Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 30-24 loss against Telluride on the 14th.
