Preview: Island Coast Gators vs. North Fort Myers Red Knights
The Island Coast Gators will be playing in front of their home fans against the North Fort Myers Red Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Island Coast focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Tuesday.
Even though Island Coast has not done well against East Lee County recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way. Island Coast pulled ahead with a 52-51 photo finish over East Lee County. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Island Coast.
It was another big night for Izaiah Bacchus, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds. He hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Roanin Solis-Valdez, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, North Fort Myers' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their eighth straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 67-66 to Riverdale. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Island Coast has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 9-10 record this season. As for North Fort Myers, they dropped their record down to 5-11 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Island Coast was taken down by North Fort Myers 62-29 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can Island Coast avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
