Baseball Preview: Zapata Hawks vs. Roma Gladiators
The Zapata Hawks will head out to face off against the Roma Gladiators at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Zapata took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past Palmview 4-3.
Zapata saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Diego Villarreal, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Villarreal has posted since back in February of 2024. Another was Ryan Solis, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Roma waltzed into their match on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Mustangs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Gladiators have posted since February 14th.
Roma pushed their record up to 6-4-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Zapata, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.
