Softball Game Preview: McCall-Donnelly Vandals vs. Payette Pirates

For the second straight game, McCall-Donnelly will face off against Payette. The Vandals will be playing at home against the Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. McCall-Donnelly is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Having struggled with 14 defeats in a row, McCall-Donnelly turned things around against Payette on Monday. They walked away with a 12-8 win over the Pirates.

Ceder Saxton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered eight runs (all of which were unearned) on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ariana Schreiner was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Harper Ferguson, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: McCall-Donnelly lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2025.

McCall-Donnelly's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 4-17. As for Payette, they are on a 14-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-16.
