Volleyball Recap: Van Wert Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Van Wert, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Jefferson Wildcats on Monday as they made off with a 3-0 win. This was payback for the Cougars, who suffered a 3-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

While Van Wert might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Jefferson scored at least 18 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-22, 25-22.

Brissia Ickes had a dynamite game, getting 14 digs and three aces. Those 14 digs gave her a new career-high. Jazzlyn Florence also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.

Van Wert's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-16. As for Jefferson, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-15.

Van Wert and Jefferson could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Cougars will face off against Ottawa-Glandorf at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (716 vs. 38). Meanwhile, Jefferson (ranked 669th) will meet Crestview (ranked 140th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
