Baseball Game Preview: Cooper Bulldogs vs. Saltillo Lions

For the second straight game, Cooper will face off against Saltillo. The Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cooper has six straight wins, Saltillo has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Tuesday, Cooper got the win against Saltillo by a conclusive 13-3. Considering the Bulldogs have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Jaret Slakey made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Cooper got a massive performance out of Brayden Williams, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Jace Meeks was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Cooper was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .385 or higher in three consecutive games.

Saltillo's defeat dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Cooper, their victory bumped their record up to 15-5.
