Dwight hasn't had much luck against Pontiac recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Trojans will welcome the Indians at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Dwight turned things around against Midland on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Timberwolves.
Madi Ely spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Dwight's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Mia Franklin, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Another was Averi Jury, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Dwight hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Midland struck out seven times.
Meanwhile, Pontiac got themselves on the board against Monticello on Monday, but Monticello never followed suit. They blew past the Sages 10-0. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won six matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Elena Krause made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Pontiac let India Mattingly and Olivia Lindsay run wild. Mattingly went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Lindsay went 3-for-4 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave Lindsay a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Rogers, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Pontiac's victory bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Dwight, their win bumped their record up to 5-13.
