Basketball Recap: Gage Mcmanus Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Chesterfield

Buford's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They snuck past the Chesterfield Golden Rams with a 67-61 win. This was a revenge game for the Yellow Jackets: when they faced off against the Golden Rams back in December of 2024, they had to take a 51-36 defeat.

Buford's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gage McManus, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. McManus has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more boards the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Bryce Bridges, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine assists.

Buford was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Buford's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 4-10. As for Chesterfield, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season.

Buford wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 60-57 loss against North Central on the 25th. As for Chesterfield, they will head out to face off against Andrew Jackson at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Andrew Jackson knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Chesterfield likes a good challenge.
