Football Recap: Thornton Takes a Loss

Thornton extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 2-6. They had to suffer through a 52-6 loss at the hands of the Kankakee Kays. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 363rd, while the Kays are ranked 83rd).

As for Kankakee, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-2. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.8 points over those games.

Cedric Terrell III continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, picking up 134 receiving yards and two TDs, while also punching in one touchdown on the ground. He didn't just play on offense: he also made three total tackles and defended two passes in addition to snagging an interception. Kankakee also got a significant boost from Kymani Billings, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 90 yards.

Thornton didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 27-26 defeat against Bloom on the 25th. As for Kankakee, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 27-14 loss against Crete-Monee on the 24th.
