Baseball Recap: Walter Panas Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against John Jay, Walter Panas was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Pelham Memorial Pelicans an 11-0 shutout. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Walter Panas let Matt Mekuto and Sam Lang run wild. Mekuto went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Lang went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those runs were Lang's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jake Malfant, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Walter Panas always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2025.

The win got Walter Panas back to even at 5-5. As for Pelham Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
