Basketball Recap: Mishawaka Marian Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Prescott Horvath and William Owens

Mishawaka Marian lost against South Bend St. Joseph back in March of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Mishawaka Marian Knights fell just short of the South Bend St. Joseph Huskies by a score of 57-54. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while the Huskies are ranked 16th).

Mishawaka Marian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of William Owens, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 12 boards, and Prescott Horvath, who went 8-for-9 en route to 16 points and five rebounds. That's the most boards Owens has posted since back in February of 2024. Paxan Sullivan was another key player, putting up 12 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

South Bend St. Joseph's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nick Shrewsberry, who went 7-for-10 on his way to 20 points. Thanks to that strong game, Shrewsberry now owns an excellent 45.1% shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Ethan Roseman, who earned ten points and six assists.

Mishawaka Marian has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 12-9 record this season. As for South Bend St. Joseph, their win bumped their record up to 17-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mishawaka Marian will challenge South Bend Adams at 7:30 p.m. on February 21st. As for South Bend St. Joseph, they will square off against New Prairie at 7:30 p.m. on February 21st.
