The Armwood Hawks will be taking part in a tournament against the Carrollwood Day Patriots at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Armwood is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
Last Tuesday, Armwood didn't have quite enough to beat Wharton and fell 4-3.
Rhyan Yetman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Armwood saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rhys Brush, who went 1-for-3 with one triple. That triple was Brush's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Carrollwood Day was not the first on the board on Thursday, but they got there more often. They were the clear victor by an 11-3 margin over St. Petersburg Catholic. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Barons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Carrollwood Day also got a great performance from Gabe Troya as he struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts Troya has posted since back in March of 2024.
At the plate, Steven Vargo was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Allen Soriano, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.
Carrollwood Day lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Carrollwood Day's record now sits at 8-4. As for Armwood, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.
Armwood took their win against Carrollwood Day in their previous matchup back in March of 2021 by a conclusive 12-2. Does Armwood have another victory up their sleeve, or will Carrollwood Day turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
