Softball Recap: Athens Drive Jaguars vs. Corinth Holders Pirates
Athens Drive had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 1-7 to make it ten. They came up short against the Corinth Holders Pirates, falling 16-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 25-0 on Tuesday.
As for Corinth Holders, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-1. Considering they have won nine contests by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
For Corinth Holders' part, Paityn Keleman was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Keleman a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and two RBI. That hit was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Fiona Stephenson, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Lauren Sizemore was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
