Volleyball Recap: Mt. Vernon Takes Down Saxony Lutheran in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Mt. Vernon had no trouble coming through when it counted. They blew past the Saxony Lutheran Crusaders 3-0 on Friday. The win was nothing new for the Mountaineers as they're now sitting on five straight.

Mt. Vernon was led to victory by Averee Swillum and Claire Hale. Swillum had 15 digs and two aces, while Hale had 12 digs. That's the most digs Hale has posted since back in October.

They weren't the only good servers: Mt. Vernon was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 15 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Saxony Lutheran only served six.

Despite the loss, Saxony Lutheran saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lynlee Smith had 11 digs and four assists.

Mt. Vernon's record is now 26-7-2. As for Saxony Lutheran, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-20-1.

Mt. Vernon has already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Helias on the 8th. As for Saxony Lutheran, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 defeat against Oak Grove on the 8th.
