Football Game Preview: Timpson Bears vs. Hemphill Hornets

For the first time this season, Timpson will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will venture away from home to take on the Hemphill Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Timpson has given up an average of 35.6 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Friday, Timpson was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 34-28 to Hooks.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hemphill, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in September. They claimed a resounding 57-8 win over KIPP Houston. Considering the Hornets' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Hemphill found their leader in sophomore Brady Layne, who threw for 158 yards and three TDs while completing 85.7% of his passes. Richyon Smith helped Layne out on the ground, rushing for 50 yards and one touchdown.

Hemphill was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 219 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Hemphill's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Timpson, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Timpson was able to grind out a solid win over Hemphill in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, winning 35-22. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Hornets' Trevon Mcdaniel, who rushed for 208 yards and one score while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Bears to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
