Basketball Recap: Douglas County Comes Up Short

Douglas County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. The matchup between them and the Heritage Eagles didn't end well, with the Douglas County Huskies falling 86-70. If the Huskies were looking for revenge after losing 62-53 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

When it comes to explaining why Douglas County lost, don't look at Gavin Dale. Despite the final result, he went 12-for-24 to rack up 38 points. The dominant performance gave Dale a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Henry Shoemaker, who posted 12 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Heritage to victory, but perhaps none more so than Trystan Rangel, who went 10-for-20 en route to 28 points. Rangel's evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Brayden Chaney was another key player, dropping a double-double with 20 points and 12 boards.

Douglas County's defeat dropped their record down to 6-17. As for Heritage, their record now sits at 11-12.

Douglas County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Heritage, they will take on Rocky Mountain on Tuesday. Heritage knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Rocky Mountain likes a good challenge.
