It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Covenant Christian ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past the Calvin Christian Squires 8-7. The Chargers haven't had any issues with the Squires recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Colin Corson made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Corson was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Corson wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Pastoor, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs. Another was J.D. Schimmel, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

The win got Covenant Christian back to even at 3-3. As for Calvin Christian, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Coming up, Covenant Christian will challenge Hamilton at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Considering the Chargers have lost eight straight at home (dating back to last season) and the Hawkeyes three straight on the road, this one might come down to who's more desperate to change their momentum. As for Calvin Christian, they will venture away from home to square off against Hopkins at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Squires' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 9.9 runs per game this season.
