Softball Recap: Milpitas Comes Up Short

Milpitas fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Wilcox on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Chargers by a score of 5-4. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Chargers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Dominique Walker spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Kaelyn Cunanan made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Chloe Cabrera, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one run.

Milpitas has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season. As for Wilcox, their victory bumped their record up to 10-6.

Looking ahead, Milpitas will head out on the road to square off against Homestead at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 1.7 runs per game this season, so the Trojans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Wilcox, they will welcome Leigh at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Chargers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Longhorns have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season.
