Baseball Recap: Mullen Takes a Loss

If Mullen was riding high fresh off their 15-0 takedown of Smoky Hill on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mustangs took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cherry Creek Bruins on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Bruins: they've now lost five in a row.

Thomas Stewart was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Mullen is 2-1 when Stewart posts one or more home runs, but 5-10 otherwise. Luke Stevenson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Mullen's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Cherry Creek, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 13-4-1.

Coming up, Mullen is taking a road trip to challenge Eaglecrest at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cherry Creek, they have already played their next contest, a 6-3 victory against Cherokee Trail on the 30th.
