Football Recap: Melba Falls to Ririe in First Game of Season + How To Watch

Melba unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They were dealt a 42-13 defeat at the hands of the Ririe Bulldogs on Saturday. The Mustangs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 23-0.

Despite the loss, Melba still got an impressive performance from Rhett Franklin, who picked up 52 receiving yards and one score, and also rushed for 52 yards.incredibly, Franklin got all that yardage with just one huge grab

Ririe had a senior duo take command as Garrett Van Noy rushed for 166 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.7 yards per carry and Kolter Lewis rushed for 140 yards and a pair of TDs. Lewis has been hot, having also posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last five times he's played.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Melba will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Cole Valley Christian at 7:00 p.m. on September 5. As for Ririe, they will welcome Soda Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
