Football Recap: Melba Comes Up Short at Home Against Ririe + How To Watch

Melba unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a blow against the Ririe Bulldogs on Saturday, falling 42-13. The Mustangs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 23-0.

Despite the loss, Melba still got an impressive performance from Rhett Franklin, who picked up 52 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 52 yards.incredibly, Franklin got all that yardage with just one huge grab

Ririe had a senior duo take command as Garrett Van Noy rushed for 166 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.7 yards per carry and Kolter Lewis rushed for 140 yards and a pair of scores. Lewis is also on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last five games he's played dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Melba will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Cole Valley Christian at 7:00 p.m. on September 5. As for Ririe, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Soda Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
